I already asked several times, but maybe I missed a message.
Can we have the video mirroring mode working on a PB G3 1999 (Lombard)?
Simple mirroring mode, not multi-head, with same resolution on both
LCD screen and video monitor/projector. (I run 2.2.17pre20-ben3)
Can we have Acrobat reader working on LinuxPPC? Not xpdf which I feel
very poor?
MANY MANY THANKS for any answer.

Just leave the VGA cable disconnected on boot, and plug it in later.
Voila, mirroring mode.
Works with yaboot only, but that's what you should use anyway.
(to answer the logical next question: get the necessary specs from ATI,
f.e. by signing up as XFree developer, and start coding real video
mirroring support, and other fancy things).

Acroread is ia-32 only. It is binary, closed source software. Unless you
can convince Adobe to release a PPC version or port it yourself via an
NDA, the answer is to use xpdf.

Don't they have an AIX version around ? I have the HP-UX one for sure.
Gabriel.

They list both HP-UX and AIX on the platforms, as well as (very deceptively)
"Linux", which of course is ia32 Linux. But AFAIK, there has been no effort
on the part of Adobe to put out a PPC Linux version.....

How well does the AIX version run under Linux/PPC? :-)

Well, I don't know. I don't have access to any AIX box, but some
linker scripts were changed (start address raised to 256Mo=0x10000000) for
reasons of similarity with AIX or so. Ask Cort, he did the changes, so he
must have had a good reason to do it.
Maybe Linux/PPC binaries can be made to run under AIX ?
Gabriel.

With the start addres change, running PowerPC Linux binaries in a
compatibility mode under AIX is possible. At the earlier address, the
executables loaded at the top of the AIX kernel segment which was
impractical to overcome in AIX.

Thanks for the explanation. Then the hard part will be to convince Adobe
to release a binary which works both under Linux/PPC and AIX.

Gabriel.

OK. I had time to test your solution. **It works!***.
But installing yaboot is rather curious to get the video mirroring
mode. I understand it's the only place where the video chip is
set. But how about the power save? Does it cost to have the video
mirroring mode running even if no external monitor/projector is
plugged?
MANY THANKS for your solution.
