Hi all,

On 20 Nov, this message from Jens Tingleff echoed through cyberspace:

I see those are patches to XFree. I have no problem with controlfb,
running XFree 4.0.1 from fsirl's R5 RPMs on devel.linuxppc.org, with the
exception of the screen being displaced to the right (IIRC).

That problem I fixed for me with a patch you can find here:

http://www.cpu.lu/~mlan/linux/dev/xf4.html

I only tried 1152 x 870 @ 32 bpp; that works perfectly fine for me...

Cheers

Michel

I knew I was setting myself up for grief by getting the original
sources ;-)

Actually, I did roll this patch into my modifications. Could it be that
the development tree on penguinppc.org doesn't have these patches at
the moment?

Cheers

That could be; I never got any positive feedback of any patch that fixes
this problem getting close enough to official XFree to be swallowed ;-)

The patch I'm using isn't clean enough for that... and it might even not
work for all resolutions/depths; never tried...

Cheers

AFAICS everything except the very last chunk (is it important?) of your patch
has been integrated in one form or another into XFree86 CVS as a patch of mine
(the one I asked you to test, Michel) was accepted. Have you looked at the
XFree86 CVS lately?

Michel

No; I'm running XF precompiled from Franz's site, and the test modules
you asked about some time ago were binary incompatible to that XF
version. A long time ago I had an XF4 source tree in a 'compilable'
state; but that was 4.0. I then tried to patch it to 4.0.1, and failed
miserably ;-) It has remained in the same state since then...

Anyway, these patches getting integrated is good news. But I think right
now I'll patiently wait for RPMs rather than compile myself :-)

Cheers

Michel
