Jim

Ps I have SELF and ELDK downloaded ... but never installed ELDK ... should

It is you who defines the use of the serial ports on your board - we
cannot answer this question.

You probably don't want to make your ramdisk image dependend on a
specific board / tty use.

If you look closer at our ELDK you will find that it contains a small
modification to "login" (calling of TIOCSCTTY ioctl) which was
necessary to allow for using /dev/console as the default serial
console device specified in inittab. See the
build/target_rpms/util-linux/SOURCES/login-eldk.patch
file in the ELDK build environment.

Hi,
Just went to look at your ELDK ... seems the rpms don't have patch in them
... which package as the source code for the build?

I tried these ... but looks like there is only binaries in them ...

util-linux-ppc_8xx-2.11f-17.ppc.rpm
SELF-ppc_8xx-1.0-1.ppc.rpm

Thanks,
But that's not it ... I just checked that BB_FEATURE_ASH_JOB_CONTROL is
compiled in ... I think problem may be:

When it says " can't access tty" ... maybe it should say ttyS00 because "
ttyS00 at 0x0280 is a SMC" on my mpc860 ... I will have to keep digging ;-)

busybox builtin shell has no job control by default - for ash you have to
enable it at compile time.
