under MPC8xx CPM Options, what's the purpose of selecting
[ ] Use UART (representing option CONFIG_8xx_UART)
i mean, i already have SMC1 serial port support, and a working
console, and SMC1 is on a UART. so what else would this give me?
there is no help for this option. if i select it, i get the chance of
now selecting "SMC2 for UART", which kind of implies that SMC1 is the
default anyway, which is already working, etc, etc.
thoughts? this is going to lead in to yet another question
regarding SMC1/SCC3 co-existence. but now, time for supper.

This is the older serial driver. This can probably go away soon (Kumar
and Panto have fixed the issues wrt needing SMC1 and SCC1, should be in
kernel.org soon).

cool. so now i can go find something else to complain about. :-)

p.s. when you say "should be in kernel.org soon", what's the flow of
fixes between that and the linuxppc-2.5 tree at bkbits?

Once a change makes it into Linus' tree, it can be pulled into
linuxppc-2.5. If there's a known important fix like this, it'll
get pulled back into linuxppc-2.5 sooner, rather than later. But it is
a manual process.
