(in case you want the brief)
IBM's plan is specifically to use distributions of linuxppc.  They arent
creating their own version, nor are they going to be writing code for it..
their plans include dropping hints to developers porting it to stay away
from sticky legal issues like property rights of the source code.

They plan on using the redhat distribution of linuxppc and they will offer
support. They are planning on shipping it on their low-end 1-2 processor
machines.

Basically aiming straight at M$'s NT's upper end market.

have any effects on the linuxppc development efforts?

	I am not speaking officially for IBM, but please do not assume
that any particular statement in the various articles about IBM's Linux
plans is accurate.  IBM developing / providing its own version of Linux
for PowerPC is not a "fact".  I would recommend the www.news.com article
as a better place to start (hint, hint).

Published reports already say that IBM has been talking to the LinuxPPC guys
for a little while and will likely use their product for a demo an upcoming
trade show.  For IBM, if these guys are producing a good port, why reinvent
the wheel on an OS with little revenue potential? (In IBM's terms of dollars)
