What's the deal with the CVS tree? The kernel I compiled from it a week or so
ago has a very screwed platinumfb driver, but now the cvs server
cvs.on.openprojects.net does not exist. www.openprojects.net has moved to
openprojects.nu, but no mention made of CVS anywhere...
Is it just a matter of waiting for it to get set up again, or should I be
looking elsewhere?

I asked this question about a week or so ago and no one replied. I don't
trust kernel dists when it comes to the platinumfb.c driver it seems to get
broken in every other incarnation.

The cvs server is alive again now, and the linux_2_2 branch has moved to
2.2.11 with a great many updates.
The kernel doesn't compile, though. There is a new line
EXPORT_SYMBOL(init_task_union);
in kernel/ksyms.c which conflicts with the same line in
arch/ppc/kernel/ppc_ksyms.c. One of the two has to go.
The kernel compiles then. It doesn't boot, though. On my 6400, it gets
as far as
INIT: version 2.74 booting
and then hangs. The 2.2.10 compiled with the same config options boots
OK.
Seems that not much testing for the PPC is going on for the vger tree.

I'm aware that the vger tree doesn't boot on my LongTrail as well.

That's disappointing. I thought the point of vger was because not much PPC
testing was going on in Linus's tree.

The Linux kernel is in constant evolution. This means it may break on some
machines after an upgrade. And then we have to (find time to) fix the problem.
All help is welcome!

Geert

The problem isn't w/ vger, but the cvs.on.openprojects.net mirror it would
seem. I have had it complain that user anonymous doens't exist, and
traceroutes to the machine die, and work fine other times. Anyhow..

Maybe you snagged it before 2.2.11 final and this commit from Cort?

As of right now (00:05 WST = 18:05 EDT), this commit has not yet arrived
on the cvs.on.openprojects.net mirror. The last entry in the log file
for arch/ppc/kernel/ppc_ksyms.c in the linux_2_2 branch dates from 2
weeks ago:
revision 1.52.2.3
date: 1999/07/26 06:10:25; author: paulus; state: Exp; lines: +2 -0
add __lshrdi3 (thanks to Alain Richard)
So I'll just be patient. Tomorrow I won't have any time for linux
anyway. Have to watch the solar eclipse.
