In response to the problems that some of you had with my Mozilla M13 build,
here is an updated one. If there are no problems with it now, it will be
submitted and I will announce when the mozilla.org tarball is up to date.

same place as last time, I just updated the file <http://www.public.iastate.edu
/~puetzk/>

You will need to go to ftp.linuxppc.com/linuxppc-1999/software/updates and get
libstdc++-2.10.0 (and, of course, any dependencies it has). You should not
need to use the funky ld-hack to make libelf.so anymore - if you did so,
delete it. You should not need to run this version as root before running it
as a normal user.

If anyone could verify that this runs fine, please email me so that I can get
mozilla.org's FTP site up to date.

As before, I'm not on the linuxppc-dev list, so please CC me.

Before I answer thes, are there any people with positive reports? I need to
hear from you if it installed perfectly as well as if you had problems. Please
be sure you include me directly in the replies to this message. I'm cc'ing the
list in case anyone else is interested in simplebrowser.

I'm afraid you may just not have enough RAM for mozilla. While a lot faster
and more stable than communicator was, it's still a big browser, with quite an
appetite for RAM (and/or swap). You chould give simplebrowser a try -

 cd ..../package
./run-mozilla.sh ./simplebrowser

This is the raptor (mozilla) layout engine, but with much of the browser
eye-candy stripped away. It runs in about 8 megs here to mozilla's 25+(numbers
are somewhat misleading because of shared libs, segments shared with the
Xserver, etc, but still comparable), so it's probably more likely to work.
Good luck.

No, /usr/lib (and /lib, and maybe others) were compiled into ld.so. the config
file serves to add others after the fact.

That's fine, they have too be asked by everyone at least once :-)

I have your original post of mozilla 13 (after getting the new libstdc++ and even
the wierd libelf symlink fix..)
There are some bugs, but it's working fine otherwise..

OK people, please cut it out with the libelf hack :-). I statically linked
that one lib in (that's what the update last night was), as LinuxPPC appears
to not have it. I need to know that the updated version posted to
<http://www.public.iastate.edu/~puetzk> late last night now works on a vanilla
LinuxPPC system (+libstdc++-2.10) without any other messing around. Can anyone
give me a yes/no?

Yes.

Well, I don't know about vanilla since I am always messing around, but I
didn't have to do anything to make this run. Just tar zxf and then
mozilla. As others found, it is almost usable.

Okay, after your whining about the libelf.so library ;-) I redownloaded the new
version and it seems to work atleast as well as the other one. It starts and
runs anways.
