Hi,

By changing the constants.xclk value to 0x36d5 in the stable kernel aty128fb.c
and running a slightly modified Xpmac that recognizes the Rage128Pro graphics
card (id 0x5046) I now have nicely working Rage 128 acceleration.

There is still a problem using just the OF frame buffer device in place of the
modified aty128fb video driver that I will look at later.

If anyone wants the aty128fb.c diff and/or a binary Xpmac.special (the source is
at at home but coming tomorrow!), just let me know and I will post them.

The XF 4.0 R128 driver still has yet to be fixed (the defaults used in place of
the rom bios probe matched the old aty128fb.c xclk value and not the new ones.

So no more split vertical panes under new G4 machines!

Hooray I can finally do something at over 8bpp!

Kevin

Overall, an excellent patch. I don't have words to express how much better the
video is :-)

The Xpmac.special and/or the aty128fb.c patch seem to have some console
weirdness. It seems to clobber the saved text when you switch from X back to the
console (I assume it's a weirdness w/ the vram...but that's a total guess :) )
I just noticed that it happens if you type a few characters in the console, and
then hit the delete key.

Also, it takes an awfuly long time to switch b/w X and the console (although
I assume that has to do w/ the different vmodes..)

Hoping perfection will come soon

Hi Nelson,

Not bad for 1 line! ;-)

Thank Ben H. for pointing me at the MacOS Display Name Registry 1.1
program. Without it I could never have gotten the MacOS timing stuff.

Huh, I can't recreate this on my machine. Perhaps I do not understand
exactly what I should be doing to get the problem to appear.

Please, can you give me detailed step by step instructions of how to make
the problem appear. Sorry to be dense here but if I can't recreate it I
can't fix it!!!

I haven't noticed that either but I will run some timing tests against my
working B+E G3 at home and see what is up!

So do I!

Take care,

Kevin

Well most of the weirdness seems to have gone away (I suppose playing w/ the
different X servers seems to have created it), but still, when I fire up Xpmac,
anything that is in a console vt gets blacked out. (eg. if you fire up Xpmac, and
switch to vt 3, the login text is gone)
