e2fsck?

e2fsck?

[Steve Rossi]

Has anyone successfully compiled e2fsck for 8xx? I was able to compile
it and run it, but it seg faults with the following output:

sh-2.03# e2fsck /dev/sda2
e2fsck 1.18, 11-Nov-1999 for EXT2 FS 0.5b, 95/08/09
/dev/sda2 contains a file system with errors, check forced.
Pass 1: Checking inodes, blocks, and sizes
Segmentation fault

Steve,

I may be getting mixed up with another utility, but I think that e2fsck
requires the /proc filesystem to be mounted.  You can do this by:

    mount -p proc /proc /proc

Give that a try and let us know if that solves the problem.

/proc is mounted when I get the seg fault

I had no problems with e2fsck on 8xx. I use the Debian Potato
sources for all packages I build for 8xx, and most of them work
just fine out of the box.

It seemed that when I ran into problems with e2fsck it was
because the program was trying to cleanup the filesystem.
If the filesystem is ok, then e2fsck operates without crashing.

I have successfully fsck'ed dirty ext2 filesystems on 8xx, no
problem there either.

Well, that seems to be my problem too. I grabed the
e2fs-progs-1.18 from the debian potato distribution,
along with the debian patch.
I'm compiling with gcc-2.95.2 (from the monta vista dev
kit) on linuxppc on a G4 (yellowdog champion server 1.2
distribtion). Still I get the same effect. Marcus what is
different in your configuration?

Well, I cross-compile from an x86 machine using Debian's gcc 2.95.2,
and my kernel is different from yours. Does your kernel contain
the MMU fixes? Otherwise things will go haywire as soon as all your
RAM is used up by e2fsck.
