Sorry, no. We're not that far into development. We're still trying to
select a suitable board, having been delayed by the problems with the
first board we chose (a FADS860T).
>>>Maybe the TQM8xxL modules can be used. You could use the starter kit
I have looked at the TQM8xxL modules, and they look almost ideal.

We were hoping to find a complete evaluation board, which we could
replicate
royalty-free (which is why we selected the FADS card initially), but
that
seems to be impossible. The worry we have about the TQM8xxL module is
the cost of purchasing one for every one of our boards that we ship.
What would
the typical selling price be for production volumes?
Many thanks,
Dan

This is becoming too commercial for this list. If anybody else is

Have you looked at the BrytePort board? Hardware is not available until
12/1. But it is a reference design. Not sure what the exact terms are
(not my department).

There are only so many degrees of freedom available in an 860T-based board
using the FEC and PCMCIA interfaces, because so much is already on-chip.
You need to be careful not to infringe on EP or TQC's intellectual property,
and you can't just replicate their designs. However, if you design your
hardware to match the components supported by the kernel, you end up needing
only minor software changes between their boards and yours, without
replicating the hardware design. In other words, if you must do a custom
board, design it to be compatible with the kernel, rather than to mimic other
people's boards.

Graham

Hi Dan,
I have recently gone through the same exercise as you. We obtained a CLLF
860T board and got the Hardhat Linux CDK from Montavista
http://www.mvista.com. I had Linux booting via TFTP in pretty short order.
However, as you've already discovered Embedded Planet boards are not
reference designs (i.e. they will not release schematics, etc. for any
price). They would rather sell you lots of their little boards.
We've subsequently decided to go to the 8260 instead of the 860. Have
recently obtained a SBC8260 board which is a reference design from EST (now
Windriver HSI). I'm just getting started with it, but Montavista CDK has
support for this board as well.
Good luck with your efforts.

Subject: Embedded planet CLLF boards
Hi all,
I am currently assessing the options for a real-time embedded linux
controller, based on a PowerPC 860T chip.
Initially, we purchased a FADS860T boards, but we had little success
with this target. Can anyone recommend an 860T-based board, which has
both a fast ethernet and a PCMCIA interface? So far, the board that gets
closest to this spec is the embedded planet CLLF board. However, this is
a production-ready board, and we are looking to design our own product
once we have proven the technology can do the task.

Interesting... Do you have RT-Linux or RTAI already running on a
MPC8xx? This is something we still have in the queue, but we're stuck

Maybe the TQM8xxL modules can be used. You could use the starter kit
STK8xxL for development, and maybe use the TQM8xxL module in your
product. See http://www.denx.de/embedded-ppc-en.html for images, and
let me know if you want a quote on prices.
The starter kit comes with full documentation so thatit's pretty easy
to build your own carrier board where you can plug in a TQM8xxL
module; the design module itself is not available for free, but this
can be negotiated, too. Just let me know what you need.
Hope this helps,
Wolfgang Denk
