HZ to MHZ, 2.4.2 kernel

HZ to MHZ, 2.4.2 kernel

I remember someone having a problem with the kernel using hz and
expecting MHZ or the other way around and it seems I'm running into this
problem right now.   Are there any patches or anything that address this
issue with regards to the 8260 serial and also the time.c code? This is
in HHL 2.0, 2.4.2 kernel

Look at the board information structure you are passing to linux. hh2.0
is expecting the cpu clock in HZ.
Look at commproc.c in arch/ppc/8260_io to see how the cpu freq is used
for baud rates.

All of this is "self contained" between the zImage bootloader and
Linux itself.  If you have something that boots a kernel directly, you
have to track these changes and make them to your bootloader.

FYI, there are some major changes coming soon where the 8xx and 8260
will start to use bi_recs like all of the other PowerPCs.  That's really
going to mess you up if you aren't booting a zImage.

Thanks for all the replies about the bd_info struct and the hz and mhz problem
i was having.

I got linux booting and running great on Friday, and everything seems to work
wonderfully. My problem was that linux (2.4.2) was expecting all clock freqs
in hz and ppcboot was giving them all in mhz.. i should've seem this way
sooner, but hey-at least it works now :)  After i changed that the timer code
started working correctly, and then I was able to take out the hacks I had in
the SMC serial code that had gotten the serial port to work. With the serial
code back to normal, I finally got output in user space and everything worked.
Yay!

I wish they were all this easy :-).

By the way, I pushed a bunch of new stuff for 8260 into the
linuxppc_2_4_devel tree last night.

Is there a ChangeLog anywhere that would describe the changes that went in?
Or perhaps I need to "use-the-source-luke" 8-)
