I am also using an MVME5100 it works so far except with the new 2.4.9 devel
tree I can no longer build a zImage.initrd. make zImage.initrd completes and
is happy, but I never find the file in the tree anywahere. I have cheked pp3,
prep, common, simple and images. The most I can find is a vmlinux.gz Any
ideas on this?

Tom just moved things around recently to consolidate some bootloaders but
you should find a ./images/zImage.initrd.pplus according to simple/Makefile.
YMMV, I haven't tried it since before the changes.

and if that doesn't work out, you should be able to narrow the
search down by doing something like:
$ find . -type f -newer vmlinux

G'arg... It really should be:
arch/ppc/boot/images/zImage.initrd.{pplus,bugboot}
I'll go and make a quick dummy ramdisk and try this..

Whoops. Typo on my part. In arch/ppc/boot/simple/Makefile, change:
ifeq ($(CONFIG_MCPN765)$(CONFIG_MVMEM5100)$(CONFIG_PRPMC750)$(CONFIG_LOPEC),y)
to
ifeq ($(CONFIG_MCPN765)$(CONFIG_MVME5100)$(CONFIG_PRPMC750)$(CONFIG_LOPEC),y)
Then re-run make zImage.initrd and you'll get something like:
-rwxr-xr-x 1 trini trini 703610 Aug 29 17:30 arch/ppc/boot/images/zImage.initrd.bugboot
-rwxr-xr-x 1 trini trini 704611 Aug 29 17:30 arch/ppc/boot/images/zImage.initrd.pplus
I'm pushing this fix now, whoops..

Hi,
I've just received a new MVME5100 board and I'm trying to boot it under
linux.
I have downloaded the linuxppc_2_4_devel tree from the bitkeeper
repository.
I have compiled a kernel from the mvme5100_defconfig with a few
modifications.
I'm trying to boot it with nbo under ppc bug.
Nothing occurs...
the nping command function. And I usually do the same with a 2303 board
without problem.
Any idea or hint ?
Cordially, xavier grave

Network commands in PPCBUG won't function until you set the time (i.e.
start the RTC) on a virgin board. Use PPCBUG's 'SET' command to
accomplish this. This is described on page 3-213 (pdf page 289) of
the PPCBUG User's Manual at
http://www.mcg.mot.com/us/products/docs/pdf/ppcbuga.pdf
Regards,
