Hi,
I compiled the Monta 2.4.2 kernel with USB support
and run it on RPXLite with MPC 823. The kernel panicked.

I wanted to test the USB part alone. Hence i copied the usb.c to arc/ppc/8xx_io and m8xxhci.c to drivers/usb
and made appropriate changes to kernel config.in files
and tried to compile it (i did these to 2.4.7 tree).
When i do this the kernel comes up and when it tries to
NFS mount the root file system
it hangs (or) stalls , i dont know.

Am i missing something ?
Or am i doing something terrible wrong ?

Thanks for any help
Sarnath

Well, I have come to that message too, but for 8260.
Although it doesn't seem correct, when I didn't
config the pins through linux (but through ppcboot)
everything went ok. It seems that when I configured
Port C, I lost ethernet (ethernet had some pins on
port C). I dont know if this is related, but just a
hint. (I also used 2.4.7 kernel)

The last time I check, nothing in the 8260 family had
an integrated USB controller...........

Get the documentation from Motorola's web site to ensure you clearly understand
how to make this work. I'm not sure it will even work on the 823, it may
require the 823e, and Embedded Planet made some hardware changes in the later
boards to support what is required as outlined in Motorola's documentation.

Perhaps Brad can share some insight on this one, as he was responsible for
the software. I know he isn't likely to be available for a few days, so I
thought I would provide the little I know about the subject :-).

Thanks.

Yes, 8260 doesn't have USB controller.
I had that message when I tried to configure
port C for the ATM. (config utopia pins).
I had the same problem. Ethernet stopped at the
same point. When I configured pins via ppcboot,
everything went ok..Strange..but...thats how I
solved the problem...
