Hi
I'm in the process of porting my board based on a MPC850
from 2.4 to 2.5 and it appears that request_8xxirq is gone.
There was some previous discussion about this subject and
some patches were presented by Tom. Apparently there were
some objections and are not in the kernel.
Is it safe to use them? And if not what is the proper
way to address this problem?
Regards
Pantelis

Just use request_irq() instead....

Sure, could you please elaborate a little bit?
I'm asking because by looking at the posted patch,
while the replacement is straight-forward for
request_8xxirq -> request_irq, there is also
the replacement of cpm_install_handler with
request_irq.
AFAIK the replacement is something like this:
cpm_install_handler(irqno, handler, ...) ->
request_irq(CPM_IRQ_OFFSET + irqno, handler, ...)
CPM_IRQ_OFFSET is nowhere to be found.
Could someone clear this up?
Thanks

request_8xxirq is not yet gone in 2.5, but it will be in 2.4 very shortly
now (IIRC, it has made its way to Marcelo) as there were hopes of trying
to replace it with something more agreeable to Dan Malek as well as
everyone else.
But be warned, if you're going to try and use 2.5 on 8xx, it will not
work without changes to the interrupt handler and some minor MM things.
