Hi,
I remember few people out here talking about the VirtexIIPro. What Eval
Boards did you use ? Experiences ?

Anybody used the VirtexIIPro with a PCI-Bridge ?

cheers & thanks in advance

Xilinx has the ML300 board. We also have built a Virtex-II
Pro Development board:

Insight electronics has a V2Pro evaluation card that is bare bones:

http://www.insight.memec.com/cgi-bin/bvutf8/memec/scripts/local/
mc_loc_b.jsp?Div=INSIGHT&Reg=AMERICAS&Country=UNITED_STATES&Lang=EN&isDe
tailPage=true&EDOID=200910&Manu=MD_XILINX

It's a lot cheaper than the Xilinx ML300 but, of course, doesn't do as
much. You can get daughter cards for it to support things like
Ethernet, CompactFlash, etc. I understand that 'Mind' has ported
PPCBoot and Linux to the card:

http://mind.be/library/software/

Xilinx has a OPB to PCI bridge that supports their PCI core but it
doesn't (yet) support host applications. Right now the bridge requires
a license to use but I understand that if you already have a license to
their PCI core then you automatically qualify for the OPB-PCI bridge.
At least that's what my FAE has told me. I am just getting into a PCI
design with the chip so I don't have any direct experience to relate.

Emanuel,

Xilinx sells the ML300 board, see http://www.xilinx.com/ml300. The board has a
PMC slot, two PC Card slots and FireWire (behind a PCI bridge). All peripherals

(including the PCI host bridge) are compiled into the FPGA.
MontaVista Linux 3.0 supports the ML300 including PCI, see
http://www.mvista.com/partners/semiconductor/xilinx.html

Our distributors also sell Virtex-II Pro based boards. AFAIK, none of them have

PCI.

Clarification: Ours uses PCI as an FPGA configuration option.

Yes, it does. Many PCI, PCMCIA, and PC cards work.

Glad to hear that the OPB-PCI bridge supports host configurations!

The documentation needs updating.

I figured out http://www.insight.memec.com/virtex2pro/ is a short-cut
for this ...

That was an old port to a development board (ML2). Our port to the
Memec Evaluation board is not ready yet,

Bob,

V2PDK contains all necessary files for a PCI host configuration and the
example design for ML300 uses it. The design as well as the PCI host
bridge are documented in V2PDK.

Peter,

The documentation I was referring to is the opb_pci_designspec.pdf
(DS437 V2.1 January 7, 2003) from the latest EDK. Although it
documents host bridge operation, on page 2 it states that host bridge
functionality is not implemented but will be available in a future
release of the core.
