Er, ehea doesn't even build right now[1], maybe that could get fixed
first?  :-)

For sure these won't break it any worse. ;) Think of these more as a
janitorial thing vs. structural.

Doesn't gregkh's patch work? At least for the interim?

Jan-Bernd,
What tools are looking in sysfs? distro scripts? I don't see any link
between ethtool and the driver (other than the driver internal bits).
Am I missing something obvious?

BTW please do not reply to jgarzik@dunveganmedia.com.

That was a Thunderbird fsck-up on my side.

This was better the way it was (before, it was readable at any tab setting);
checkpatch is overeager to complain on tab/space issues (it's a bit hard to
distinguish indentation from alignment with a regex).

In emacs, with no special offsets, the lines appear to still line up.

What did happen was spaces were turned to tabs where applicable.

What editor shows a bad alignment?

Are you using a tab size other than 8?

I disagree about the applicability. :-)

Any editor that has been configured to a non-default tab size.
