-mcpu=970 would be wrong (although it should work in this
specific case). -mcpu=powerpc64 is better. -mtune=970
wouldn't make any sense.
It's not about "keeping me happy", it's about doing the
Right Thing(tm). Don't fight the toolchain, work with it.
