For the 80th and last time. Get the XF86Config.pismo from howarths directory.
Switch the references from rage128 to ati. Copy this file to
/etc/X11/XF86Config . The timings will work. I am not using the latest version
of the ati driver (X) but mine works. When booting a recent kernel with
yaboot, you should not have to specify video= on a lombard. It will by default
use 1024x768 60hz and atyfb. If you are not getting a cursor, I would bet You
either gummed something up in your .config or you are specifying uneccessary
video options. Also make sure you aren't telling yaboot to use "novideo". If
you are not getting a cursor after verifying that, use one of Ben's
precompiled kernels. I am using one of his older precompiled kernels (with
direct boot ati accel fixed), the ati driver from a month ago, xf401 from
franz's rpms, and a slightly edited XF86Config file that used the pismo file
as a template. The only bug I have is that i get a few blue garbage pixels
when areas with blue in them redraw.

Well, that's where I started. But, this being the 80th time around, I'll go
back and try again. Funny how small things can send you off track
sometimes.

Actually, I just discovered the cursor is black. Moving the mouse cursor
(gdm) over it brings it out. Must be a color setting that's off.

I really didn't specify anything manually, just installed the generic
yaboot with mkofboot first and then ybin as I referenced new kernel images.
I'll go back an look at the .config file and see.

Using the Config file posted with the changes you recommended, results in a
parse error on the first line, where the server can't handle the "
character. I suppose there might be some problem with the file permissions
that affect how the server reads it (this is why I switched to a more custom
config file to begin with). But in any case, making my config file (which
the server reads without problem) identical to the posted one, the server
still bombs when it can't find the video device. So, there's something
screwy with the device name or memory designation somewhere (kernel, server,
driver, wherever). I'm going to recompile everything (again) just to make
sure that the finished driver has the right settings, but I think it already
does, we'll see.
