I am sorry to ask a question that must have been answered
in the billions of messages talking from XFree 4, but is it
possible to run it actually with the r128 driver ?
On my BW G3, when I launch X I get hundred of lines like
:
(W) r128: resolution deleted (XXX x XXX)
(E) r128: no available mode found
No screen found
Is there a problem in my XF86Config file? (I tried to
remove everything but essential lines to keep only
resolutions that I know are working)
I am running on anthony's aty128fb. When I use offb, it
goes a step further and crashes with a segmentation fault.
What is wrong with it? What are the necessary patches for
XF4 to work on PPC? Can someone provide some structured
informations on latest X server for PPC machines?
Thanks

Yes.

You either haven't specified valid modes for your monitor or the correct
horizontal and vertical frequency ranges.

Do you use Option "UseFBDev" ?

I wouldn't expect that to work anyway...

None except the cache flush patch by Kostas Gewrgiou and Kevin Hendricks.

What are those ranges? Does it really reject the modes due to them, or what
does the log say? (The reason is in brackets)

It does, according to lots of people.

Why do you think something's wrong with it? At least the server doesn't crash
with it, so I'd rather ask what's wrong with offb...

On the contrary, AFAIK it's needed for the r128 driver to work on Macs yet.

Those are predefined modes, a new feature of 4.0 .
That reminds me: Have you defined your wanted mode yourself? If so, you could
try changing its name, preventing interference with the predefined modes.
