We generally create the platform devices by hand for LED
devices on sparc64.
I'd CONFIG_POWERPC depend this thing for now.

Yes it is. You might want a CONFIG_PPC with that.
It has been..... uhhhh carry the two... longer than I want to admit
since I worked on a sparc. Would GPIO based LEDS make sense on a sparc
platform? Is sparc used much in the embedded world?
If yes, the of_register_platform_driver is just a nice wrapper. It
would be trivial to either change it to work on sparc, or add the
wrapper to the sparc includes.

Yes, linkstation and storcenter have to migrate to the "physmap-flash"=20
platform driver. For now you can define in your .config

Currently it doesn't matter where the mdio nodes are placed, but with
power management support (i.e. when sleep = <> properties will take
effect), mdio nodes placement will become important: mdio controller
is a part of the ethernet block, so the mdio nodes should be placed
correctly. Otherwise we may wrongly assume that MDIO controllers are
available during sleep.

Well, that makes sense. I'd like to move mdio nodes in a separate
patch though, since the original patch becomes difficult to review
because of too many changes...
A question though... do we want real addr translation via ranges, or
the dummy "ranges;" are OK?
Here is the RFC. It's tested to work on MPC8377-RDB.

To build a biarch compiler that defaults to 32-bit, try adding the
option --with-cpu=default32 to your GCC configure options. You also
shouldn't need --enable-targets=all. We haven't used that option
for ages when building powerpc64-linux enabled GCCs.

But the kernel knows that enet1 depends on mdio0. Getting the kernel to
act on that knowledge isn't the device tree's problem.

And that isn't absolutely correct either, since enet1 depends on
net0... If enet0's mdio goes into sleep mode before enet1, then
enet1 will fail to send power-down command to its PHY...
So the better solution would be

The powerpc 64 bit architecture defines three flags for the
DABR (Data Address Breakpoint Register). Add definitions
for the currently missing DABR_DATA_WRITE and DABR_DATA_READ

I have a 32-bit-only gcc and `allnoconfig' secretly switches your

Add macros for the GS (guest state) bit to the list of MSR bit definitions.
On PowerPC cores that support embedded hypervisor mode, GS is cleared if
the system is running in hypervisor state (and MSR[PR] is cleared), and set
if it's running in guest state. See the Power ISA 2.06 specification for
more information.

This patch adds pmc nodes to the device tree files so that the boards
will able to use standby capability of MPC837x processors. The MPC837x
PMC controllers are compatible with MPC8349 ones (i.e. no deep sleep).
sleep = <> properties are used to specify SCCR masks as described
in "Specifying Device Power Management Information (sleep property)"
chapter in Documentation/powerpc/booting-without-of.txt.
Since I2C1 and eSDHC controllers share the same clock source, they
are now placed under sleep-nexus nodes.
A processor is able to wakeup the boards on LAN events (Wake-On-Lan),
console events (with no_console_suspend kernel command line), GPIO
events and external IRQs (IRQ1 and IRQ2).
The processor can also wakeup the boards by the fourth general purpose
timer in GTM1 block, but the GTM wakeup support isn't yet implemented
(it's tested to work, but it's unclear how can we use the quite short
GTM timers, and how do we want to expose the GTM to userspace).

pull all the tricks you have out of your hat to figure out what board
it is running on so that the .dtb can be updated. Is there an eeprom
or something on the board which might store serial numbers or MAC
addresses?

Seems reasonable. But please add a list of users of rtc-generic and information
about their respective rtc hardware along with some general planning about
which future driver would cover which users.
And let's hope this is a beginning :)

Hello,
I'am looking for an image to boot a embedded device with a single image.
I though the generated uImage in arch/powerpc/boot should work, but =
u-boot cannot but this,
because the addresses of initrd and dtb not found.
Now I'am creating the image by hand with mkimage:
mkimage -A ppc -n F302 -O linux \
-T multi -C gzip -a 0x0 -e 0x0 \
-d vmlinux.bin.gz:initramfs_data.cpio.gz:f302.dtb \
uImage
This file is bootable, but I don't understand how a standard file has to =
be booted.
I read in th u-boot documentation about a new fileformat which is build =
with the dtc.
Can someone explain me the different fileforamts for booting a powerpc =
with u-boot?
Which is the simplest to use?
Shold I reconfigure u-boot?
