OK, ignore the peanut gallery, this is the real answer:

./foo > /dev/tty1

See /etc/syslog.conf on Debian for another example.  Anywhere you could
write to a file you can write to /dev/tty$FOO and it will do the right
thing.

UNIX is full of stuff like this.  Pretty cool, huh?
