Sounds like an xcdroast bug. If they finally dropped the scsi emulation
it would be a welcome change. It does not make sense to have to use
some fake SCSI bus to burn CDs on an IDE system.

I seem to have lost cdrom support through scsi emulation, any ideas?
(its a burner, and drive detection with xcdroast in ide mode is
terrible, takes minutes).

Not sure if its a bug or a feature ;-) but it does give the message
that its going to take a long time and if I want to make it shorter I
should use scsi emulation and not ide. I don't understand enough about
these to know where the problem lies I'm afraid.

Anyway I got the output of dmesg and was hoping it could shed some more
light on the problem. Seems like a problem with isofs from that:

So did it work in 2.6.9-rc2?

It turned out to be hardware problems. Cleaned it with some compressed
air and it works for now (hopefully that was the only problem).

On the other had, ide-scsi still segfaults when trying to remove it
(seems to be no relation to the faulty cd drive).

The stack trace is in the other mail I sent.

Just tested (sorry, took me some time to free the time to check). Also
doesn't work, same error message:

Oct 6 01:26:11 litshi kernel: attempt to access beyond end of device
Oct 6 01:26:11 litshi kernel: sr0: rw=0, want=68, limit=4
Oct 6 01:26:11 litshi kernel: isofs_fill_super: bread failed, dev=sr0, iso_blknum=16, block=16

(repeated several times).

I rebooted into 2.6.9-rc3 again and tried to remove the scsi modules to
try ide-cd instead and got a segmentation fault to

rmmod ide_scsi cdrom sr_mod scsi_mod nls_base isofs

second attempt blocked with error that ide_scsi is busy. In
/var/log/messages I found the following error message:
