Problems with sound on latest kernels.

Hello,

I can't manage to get my sound cards (SB VIBRA and SB AWE 32) working
on the latest kernels (> 2.6.14 approximately).

They doesn't even work if i use an older .config from a 2.6.12 kernel
in which they worked. That's the weird thing.

These are the relevant lines on dmesg:

Please use ALSA CVS to do a binary search by date to identify the change
that broke it.

Poor guy - that's rocket science.  It looks like it's due to breakage in
the pnp code anwyay.

Please set CONFIG_PNP_DEBUG=y and send us the output of `dmesg -s 1000000',

Yeah, it seemed that to me, alsa wasn't even loaded at that time.

This patch may solve your problem.  Could you send a new dmesg output with it

Are you sure you're using the same kconfig options?  For example, is isapnp
now disabled, or are you using the ALSA driver instead of the OSS driver
(appears as "sb" in the kernel log)?

i'm really sure they're the same options... isapnp enabled and both
alsa and oss compiled (in that config i had both compiled, because i
did not know if the problem was related to alsa).

Well, it's no harder than git bisect.  And more people know CVS.  But
yes, it would be nice if there were an easier way to identify
regressions.
