Try:
http://www.mbsi.ca/cnxtlindrv/
Caveat: These only work on non-SMP kernels. My SMP box freezes hard
when accessing the modem using this HCF driver.

I'm getting kernel panics using the A7m266d smp motherboard and kernel
2.4.18 as soon as the system is put under load.
I've tried ext2 and ext3 filesystems.
It's rock solid when booted using uni-processor kernel.
Also, hdparm reports the drive as udma2 even though it's udma5.
IDE performance as measured by hdparm is terribly slow even when compared
to what it should be using udma2.
I've had the same IDE issues with a Tiger MP using the AMD760MP chipset.
I don't have a problem with ASIC during boot and MP is on version 1.1.
Does anyone else have these problems or know what is causing them.
Thanks,
Nick D'Imperio

Mine is rock solid with dual processors.

Did you use XP or MP processors. Do you have at least a 400W PSU ?

AMD76x IDE is a new feature in 2.4.19pre. That supports UDMA100

I have 1800+MP processors and my PSU is 400W. Of course I also have the
little four prong connector plugged in as well.
My bios is 1006, but I've also tried 1005a and get the same problems.
I've swapped every component in the machine with the Tiger MP board and
get the same problem, ie. 760MP works fine 760MPX dies.
What bios version are you running?

I just installed the customized redhat 7.3 kernel and it fixed all the IDE
problems but not the kernel panics.

I've run 1004 mostly (the old old one). 2.4.19pre knows how to fix up the
PCI config errors it seems to make and since it worked I didnt update

Same here. Bios is 1004 and everything is rock solid with SMP.

This points very strongly towards an overheating problem. The 1800+ and
higher CPU's run very hot. Any imperfection in the cooling setup, be
it lack of thermal paste, undersized heatsink/fan combination,
improperly seated heatsink, and even insufficient airflow around the
CPU's and inside the chassis, can and will cause crashes under load.
I had this exact problem a few weeks ago with a dual Athlon 1U setup. It
turned out that the aluminum heatsinks I had previously used for the
1.2GHz Athlons weren't good enough for the 1900+, and also that the
chassis fans were circulating enough air. Switching to copper heatsinks
got rid of 95% of the crashes, and adding a chassis fan got rid of the
remaining 5%.

I have to admit given the heat coming off my dual athlon I'd have called
1U dual athlon "Ambitious"

Given the power usage I'm seeing I'd second that

As an Asus A7M266-D user myself, I've never had any stability issues of this
sort. Though i'me runnign dual 1400+ with Volcano 6cu. The cpu's run at
about 45 degrees and i've never had any problems with stability. Though we
did have stability issues in the past with Mps 1.4, this seems to have been
fixed in 2.5.17.

Overheating is certainly a concern but is not the problem here I think.
1 processor is rock solid.
I also switched it with a dual TigerMP board and that runs fine.

Some source code is available on their site..
beta. the author says some of the code is BSD licence...

Actually, both source code and docs is useless for winmodems, at least
until someone writes v.34 stack :-(.

There is a driver for these. The driver shell is open sourced but links
against
a binary lib containing the soft modem core from conexant.
The driver is maintained by Marc Boucher and available at
<http://www.mbsi.ca/cnxtlindrv/>
