A google search revealed
(http://www.cs.helsinki.fi/linux/linux-kernel/2001-44/1775.html)
that you have recently had similar trouble as I have with PCI
interrupts. Have you found a resolution to the trouble?
My new laptop is mostly working, but I can't get my sound card to
produce a sound. I'm suspecting that the sound driver is not receiving
interrupts. I can hear the clicking when the driver is loaded -- and I
have used aumix to set the volume. Both ALSA and OSS (commercial) fail
the same way.
I'm running 2.4.17 with SuSE 7.3.
Here's a snippet from dmesg:

Should I return the laptop to the shop? (It's a Compaq Presario 700Z).

When using ALSA, be sure to *unmute* the channels with alsamixer (aumix
won't do).

I've got a Dell Inspiron 3500 where the sound works fine on the first boot
but the IRQ gets lost after an APM suspend, and even unloading/reloading the
module doesn't help. (The I/O addresses are still valid, but it gets no IRQ.
KDE has no sound, from the command line it loops playing the same segment
over and over complaining about timeouts...)
It's been doing this for a year. I've mentioned it here a few times before.
I've played around with setpci and such, but haven't been able to fix it. I
just reboot when I want sound. The bios sets it up right (on a cold boot,
not returning from APM). Linux (even 2.4.17) does not.

Hi!
Today I tried to install a new Ethernet card with Realtek Chipset,
but the card can't be locked to a specific IRQ. The dmesg output
describes it better (kernel is 2.4.20-pre8):
[....]
8139too Fast Ethernet driver 0.9.26
PCI: Found IRQ 11 for device 00:11.0
IRQ routing conflict for 00:11.0, have irq 10, want irq 11

eth0: Identified 8139 chip type 'RTL-8139C'
Regardless of which PCI slot the card uses, the problem stays the same.
I searched the net and found many people having the same trouble, but not a
single solution for it.
It seems to me that this could be a kernel bug (maybe pci-irq.c),
can anybody help?

Now that you mentioned it: Just a few hours ago I popped in a soundcard
into one of my machines:
Nov 1 16:10:20 nicole kernel: solo1: version v0.19 time 11:19:52 Apr 14 2002
Nov 1 16:10:20 nicole kernel: PCI: Found IRQ 10 for device 00:13.0
Nov 1 16:10:20 nicole kernel: IRQ routing conflict for 00:13.0, have irq 3, want irq 10
This is also an Apollo/MVP3 chipset. Other than that the soundcard seems
to work fine. I don't see this with any other card BTW.

Just to mention it: my network card also works flawlessly with this
curious "irq routing conflict"....
Greetings, Heinz.

<AOL>
PCI: Found IRQ 11 for device 00:0a.0
IRQ routing conflict for 00:0a.0, have irq 10, want irq 11
eth0: RealTek RTL-8029 found at 0xe800, IRQ 10, 00:40:05:32:EB:19.
The card works fine, this is on a MVP3 running 2.4.20-rc1.
</AOL>
