Hello,

I sent this email to the cdwrite ml a while ago, and the conclusion was
that it was a kernel bug... so I forward here ;-)

I got the same result with 2.5.58 (I need to compil a 2.5.59...).

Thank you very much ;-)

Hello,

is it possible to burn without idescsi under 2.5.56?

I can confirm it worked this morning with 2.5.58.

cdrecord --version
Cdrecord 2.0 (i686-pc-linux-gnu) Copyright (C) 1995-2002 Jörg Schilling

uname -a
Linux nipplehead 2.5.58 #77 Thu Jan 16 02:57:13 GMT 2003 i686 AMD
Athlon(TM) XP2000+ AuthenticAMD GNU/Linux

I do know vcdxrip hasn't worked since 2.5.42 or so.

This is a 1/2 gentoo, 1/2 my fault box.

Well, lots of people have CD-writer working, as you don't tell which
unit you have, I don't know wheter it's a CD or a DVD writer one???

And are you really not using ide-scsi?

Is there anybody which has success with DVD-writer under 2.5.59 without
ide-scsi?

Thank you very much,

	Grégoire

Hi,

[..SNIP..]

Starting to write CD/DVD at speed 1 in real SAO mode for single session.

I am using 2.5.59-mm2 and cd writing seems to work well if you don't use
SAO/DAO mode, use TAO instead. My drive claims to support SAO and it
used to work with ide-scsi but I get the same error as you if I try SAO
now.

Regards,

Shane

Hello,

thank you very much for the info ;-)
I find it a little strange to be forced to forget SAO...

I doubt you could write a DVD-R with such an unit, or am I wrong?
And I should also add with DAO/SAO ;-)

Thank you very much,

oops, as i was reading this thread I thought lets try to burn again, as it
did not work around 2.5.56.
your first question was: is it possible to burn without idescsi under 2.5.56?
so i answered that one and so i mist the 'dvd' part in your second question...

if it can burn in sao/dao i don't know, will try that later
