This is dmesg after bootup completes: if I insert the card nothing happens, 
but if I start X, the card gets magically recognized and initialized!

After exiting X the card is only recognized if the pcmcia service is started 
with the card inserted. I attached the full dmesg and three lsmods. The first 
right after bootup (and after inserting the pc card, which by the way logs 
nothing), the second one after starting X and the third after exiting X.
