2.6.5-bk1 breaks the VMware compile (similar problem with 2.6.5-mm5).
This is fixed by Sam Ravnborg's kbuild patch (see previous LKML
message). This should also fix problems with broken Nvidia (non-free)
compiles..

Learn how to quote, then ask vmware.
[And, vmware 4.5.quite-new works fine on my machine]

Maybe you forgot to "apply" the "patch" to VMware to allow it to compile
its interface and run OK in newer kernels. Check:
ftp://platan.vc.cvut.cz/pub/vmware
for the latest version of the "patch" (vmware-any-any-update66.tar.gz).
Greetings.

I don't know if it's just me, but I had to build the modules manually.
The vmware-config.pl script didn't do the right thing.

I just untarred the mentioned tarball, run the "runme.pl" script, and
then everything compiled and loaded into memory just fine.
Greetings.

When I did that it built something the kernel told me wasn't a module
at all.
