Hi,

Here goes the third (and hopefully last) release candidate of v2.4.33.

It contains a fix for CVE-2006-2935 (locally exploitable typo in DVD
code), ethtool oopses and an ext3 block bitmap leakage issue.

Willy Tarreau has stepped up to maintain the mainline v2.4 tree, and
will do so starting from v2.4.34.

He has devoted great effort to help maintenance for the past few years.
His -hotfix tree is quite popular amongst v2.4 users, for instance.

I feel very confident in his competence for the job, knowing his good
common sense and great technical/communication skills.

Thanks Willy!

Summary of changes from v2.4.33-rc2 to v2.4.33-rc3
============================================

Andreas Haumer:
      [PATCH-2.4] Typo in cdrom.c

Kirill Korotaev:
      EXT3: ext3 block bitmap leakage

Marcelo Tosatti:
      Change VERSION to 2.4.33-rc3

Willy Tarreau:
ethtool: two oopses in ethtool_set_coalesce() and ethtool_set_pauseparam()

Thanks to both of you, I know a number of people who are still on 2.4
due to issues with the new development model, they all depend on you for
stable kernel fixes.

Obscure bug of 2004: BASH BUFFER OVERFLOW - if bash is being run by a
normal user and is setuid root, with the "vi" line edit mode selected,
and the character set is "big5," an off-by-one errors occurs during
wildcard (glob) expansion.

http://www.kernel.org/pub/linux/kernel/v2.4/testing/patch-2.4.33-rc3.bz2
is only 854 bytes long, and once bunzip2:ed it looks like it's the
incremental diff between rc2 and rc3. Usually the full pre/rc patches
go in testing/ with the incrementals going into testing/incr/.

No big deal, but it would feel better with a proper -rc3 patch there.

Yeah, stuff happens ;)

At the moment one needs 2.4.32 plus patches -rc2 and -rc3, like you
say, very obvious from patch file sizes ;)

At least -rc3 goes okay on 7 of 7 test boxen here:
  <http://bugsplatter.mine.nu/test/linux-2.4/>

Cheers,
Grant.

Hmmm... Like I once told you, I felt like you were trying to sell me
your car, but you seem to have maintained it in very good state so I
am confident it will not break after a few miles. I still hope that
if I have any problem with it, you will come with your breakdown
truck to rescue me :-)

I hope I will get criticisms if I do things wrong. It's frustrating
to work without feedback (either positive or negative).

Best regards,
Willy

I will let Marcelo fix it.

Fine, thanks for the test, Grant. I expect to release hf32.7 soon, all
the patches are already waiting in the git tree. But I won't announce
a date anymore, everytime I did so I did not respect it at all.

Fixed, sorry.
