+ It is possible for the kernel to log important events to a trace
+ facility. Doing so, enables the use of the generated traces in order
+ to reconstruct the dynamic behavior of the kernel, and hence the
+ whole system.
+
+ The tracing process contains 4 parts :
+ 1) The logging of events by key parts of the kernel.
+ 2) The tracer that keeps the events in a data buffer (uses
+ relayfs).
+ 3) A trace daemon that interacts with the tracer and is
+ notified every time there is a certain quantity of data to

If kernel/relay.c becomes obsolete, then perhaps this should be a separate
patch, removing it entirely.

And the rationale behind this would be..?
Apparently you've also decided to try and add the file system back in,
what exactly is so "special" about LTTng that it can't use CONFIG_RELAY
in conjunction with debugfs, in the same way that blktrace does now?

Ok, next time I will send the patches in a different order.
(meanwhile, you can apply this patch at the end)

No, it is not. It's a temporary solution only used because relayfs has been such
a moving target lately that I decided to wait for things to settle down before
switching. I plan to switch to the new relay.o and use DebugFS for filesystem. I
just haven't done the change yet.
