Should be CONFIG_GART_IOMMU instead of CONFIG_IOMMU here?

Hmm, looks like it would be nice to have more cleanups of iommu.h and
gart.h.

This is against tip/master.

applied to tip/x86/core, thanks!

agreed about the cleanups. We are willing to test RFC patches :-)

Ok, how about this?

If you are fine with the intention of this, then I'll send the
follow-up cleanups.

Note that iommu.h includes some gart things that everyone needs. If
you like, I'll rename gart.h gart_priv.h (or something) and move the
gart stuff in iommu.h to gart.h.

Subject: [PATCH] x86: remove duplications in iommu.h and gart.h

This remove lots of duplications in iommu.h and gart.h.

The end result of this patch is:

- iommu.h is a header file for everyone related with IOMMUs.

- gart.h is the private header file. Only pci-gart_64.c and its
friends include it.

yeah. Or just move it into iommu.h and turn gart.h into the true
GART-specific include file? (and add iommu.h includes to files that are
affected)

The asm-x86/iommu.h file is a leftover from some patches I submitted
last year. I renamed iommu.h to gart.h but somehow iommu.h still exists
in mainline. I think we should check again if somebody is using that
file and remove it if not.

I think that we need a common header file (iommu.h or whatever) for
what everyone needs, pci_iommu_shutdown(), no_iommu_init(), etc.

Anyway, I did more cleanups:

http://lkml.org/lkml/2008/7/10/510

or

tip/x86/gart

Let me know if you think we still need cleanups.

Thanks,

Now that you ask, I think the x86 DMA layer in general needs some rework
and cleanup. The implementation specific free_coherent function is never
called at the moment for example. For paravirtualized DMA we also need
some kind of stackable dma_ops according to Amit.

Agreed, I think that every IOMMU developer agrees :)

Right, x86 coherent functions need to be fixed. There are some other
areas to improve, I think.

Yeah, we need that:

http://marc.info/?t=121117888500001&r=1&w=2

I think that we will need lots of IOMMU (and DMA stuff) work in the
near future.
