Hello list,

today i've seen the following crash using v3.0.7 (renamed to 2.6.40.7).

http://pastebin.com/raw.php?i=sRq7T4Y0

I haven't seen this with 3.0.6 but i also changed some kernel config
options (activated ipv6, changed from SLAB to SLUB).

Greets Stefan

Any way to reproduce it?

No idea the systrm is just crashing every 2-6 hours. I've now also tried to use slab. No difference. So i will revert to 3.0.6 which is running fine.

Can you run 'git bisect' to try to find the problem patch? Oh, there is
one bugfix that I know of, bcd5cff7216f9b2de0a148cc355eac199dc6f1cf in
Linus's tree, can you try that to see if it solves the problem for you?

thanks,

this seems to fix it. Perhaps you should release v3.0.8 as the stable
tree isn't stable right now? I mean this bug seems to be triggered on
every SMP machine.

I will work to get it out soon.

thanks for testing and letting me know.

Fine. Any idea if this will happen this week or in a month or ... I'm
scheduling an update for all our systems and if this will happen really
soon i will probably schedule it a bit later.

The 3.0.8-rc1 went out two days ago, so hopefully, if my gpg usb stick
still works, I can get it out tomorrow, or the day after, as tomorrow,
the Kernel Summit is still going on.

thanks,

how to get 3.0.8-rc1? linux-stable.git does not have a tag named
v3.0.8-rc1 - will 3.0.8 be the same as 3.0.8-rc1?

Thanks!

kernel.org/pub/linux/kernel/v3.0/stable-review/patch-3.0.8-rc1.gz

I doubt it will be identical, but it should be close.

I never tag the -rc releases, as it doesn't make sense to (sometimes we
drop them before the final release.)

> - will 3.0.8 be the same as 3.0.8-rc1?

No, we have already dropped a patch and added 2 more.

Hope this helps,

It was released a few hours ago, no waiting needed.
