Doubtful whether that's correct. The kernel is compiled with
-fno-delete-null-pointer-checks since commit a3ca86aea507
("Add '-fno-delete-null-pointer-checks' to gcc CFLAGS").
So these NULL pointer checks are generally not optimized away.
