Hi.

Some of my fellow students and I, have started a project in which we
have to implement a linux driver for a CANbus ISA card ( AROS: A-858D
PCCAN -x ver. 1.12).

Does there exist any work on a CANBus driver for linux already?

Also, is there any interrest for this kind of driver, or would something
like this end up on a useless outdated website?

Any comments welcome.

Thanks in advance.

Hi Mark.

Thanks for your reply - its nice to hear the there is some interrest in
out project.

See: http://www.kvaser.se

We will contact Kvaser to get the technical Specification. I cannot
guarantee that we will be allowed to publish it, but if we are and you
are interrested, i can send you a link when and if we get it.

I don't have many ISA

We have no influence on the card itself, I'm afaid. But we will stridt
to make it very easy to change the hardware driver.

The driver we want to implement, is actually several drivers.
Since the CANBus is a bus, it is natual (for us) to implement it as
such, so that it will be possible to load drivers on top of the hardware
driver, which can communicate with specific hardware on the bus.

I'm still very interrested.

See the Linux Lab Project at http://www.llp.fu-berlin.de/

ISTR there were CAN drivers there at one point.

Hi Anders -

There is a bunch of code for Linux CANbus/DeviceNet drivers for SST
cards (sstech.on.ca) here:

http://home.att.net/~marksu/dn5136man.html

"This is a Linux driver and library of useful functions and utility
applications for the SST 5136-DN family of CAN bus/DeviceNet interface
boards."

SST makes these cards in various formats, pcmcia, PC104, isa...

Also found something here, not familiar with it though:

http://www.synergetic.com/linux/

Good luck,

-Eric
