Hello, Zilvinas!

There are utilities that work with PnP BIOS. They are included with
pcmcia-cs (which is weird - it should be a separate package) and called
"lspci" and "setpci". They depend on PnP BIOS support in the kernel
(CONFIG_PNPBIOS).

Dumping your PnP BIOS configuration and checking whether it has changed
after booting to Windows would be more reasonable than checking your PCI
configuration (IMHO).

Ehm, "lspci" and "setpci" is part of the pci-utils package (at least on RedHat)
and is used to dump/modify PCI configuration space (/proc/bus/pci). If you know
how to use these tools to dump PNP bios, please tell us.

I tested 2.4.4-ac9 today on A7V133 machine. It booted up, but can't stand
any load. It will deadlock (without oops) when the network/disk system faces
any load.

There is also some new bug in VIA IDE driver. It misdetects cable as 80-w
when it's only 40-w and causes some CRC errors and speed dropping. Some
older kernels correctly detected the cable as 40-w and used UDMA33, this one
tries to use UDMA100 and fails (of course). Is there any way to force cable
detection to 40-w?

There were no changes lately in the VIA driver. Can you spot where the
problems begun?

RH 2.4.2-2 works correctly, but 2.4.4-ac9 doesn't. I think 2.4.3 didn't
work.

RH 2.4.2-2 and 2.4.4-ac9 are I believe the same driver exactly. 2.4.3 is an
ancient known not to work well driver

Ummm... Here's stripped dmesg of both kernels... Is this compiler thingie or
Athlon optimizations?
Notice also different detected PDC20265 BIOS settings! So 2.4.4-ac9 detects
those BIOS settings correctly and 2.4.2-2 doesn't. That's probably reason
why 2.4.2-2 works?

Could be.

CRC errors are cable errors so that bit is reasonable in itself

Since when - the VIA driver in -ac has not changed for a very long time

it shouldnt ever misdetect - thats a bug.

I have to boot to win9x (with latest and greatest via drivers) and back
to linux. Just of sudden linux freezes or if I have apcid running 
sometimes it oops' on boot sometimes later ... lots of defunc  kacpid ...

of hardware ... I don't know.) and linux can't handle hardware is this
new "after win9x" state ... 

reset/clear CMOS with jumper helped.

I have ACPI disabled from the kernel. The machine have never seen any
windows...
