The hid.ko module was renamed to usbhid.ko.  Are you sure that you are
still loading the proper driver?  I don't see the messages:

This is not right. If you look in the Makefile for LC_ALL, you'll note
that the assignments are made having an indent in front of them (meaning:
execute as shell command.)

Convert those indents to spaces, and you're good to go. I'm not going to
bother submitting a patch because pan is surely going to munge it again.

My x86_64 Acer 1501LCe laptop problem persists, it freezes at the same 
point with the HD light on solid. Boot proceeds normally up to "found 
reiserfs format "3.6" with standard journal".

I reran DBT-2 to with ext2 and ext3 (in case you were still interested)
on my 4-way Xeon system with 60+ drives:

Aside from the from the drop you're already aware of since 2.6.3, it
looks like DBT-2 takes another smaller hit after 2.6.5-rc3-mm2.  Here's

Yeah, PostgreSQL defaults to fdatasync.  I should have paid closer
attention when you said *-fsync-speedup patches...  I'll rerun using
fsync.

PostgreSQL will also do open_sync.

Which looks like it is taking a lot longer (is it the same test?)
It is difficult to tell how idle each one is due to lack of total
ticks reported, but, copy_to/from_user is 3% the amount of idle
time in 2.6.3, while being 3.5% the amount of idle time in your
profile.

So 2.6.3 could be relatively more idle than -mm.

Do we know what the 2.6.3 regression is caused by? Or is it
likely to be the CPU scheduler?

Whoops, I changed when the sample is take.  This 2.6.3 results samples
when the test is ramping up, while all the subsequent tests are sampling
after the test ramps up.  I can redo this one.

Yeah, I did tests previously to determine what might be the cause and Andrew
believes it's the CPU scheduler.

Under kernel 2.6.5-rc3-mm4 i get a nice oops when trying to see the
contents of NFS export from BSD box.The NFS share gets mounted and shows:

SysRq-P (it should have said below)  gives similar output on 2.6.5, 
definitely looks like something that was changed in 2.6.5-rc3.

straight to /dev/null. Please ensure that you label NFS-related mails
with a clear "NFS" in the subject header if you want me to notice them.
Nobody has enough free time on their hands to spend reading all 1000
LKML emails each day.

Mind sending me a binary tcpdump of that readdir? Please use something
like
  tcpdump -s 9000 -w dump.out port 2049 and host insert_name_of_server
