[1.] One line summary of the problem:
Severe performance loss with kernel 2.6.10
[2.] Full description of the problem/report:
It looks like 2.6.10 suffers from severe performance issues at least on
Pentium 4 CPU. The system is sluggish and compilation of kernel takes more
than 5 times longer than 2.6.9.
[3.] Keywords (i.e., modules, networking, kernel):
kernel, performance
[4.] Kernel version (from /proc/version):
Linux version 2.6.9 (root@stor) (gcc version 3.3.4) #1 Fri Jan 14 14:18:38
EST 2005
[5.] Output of Oops.. message (if applicable) with symbolic information
     resolved (see Documentation/oops-tracing.txt)
[6.] A small shell script or example program which triggers the
     problem (if possible)
cd /usr/src/linx-2.6.10; time make
[7.] Environment
Standard PC; Slackware linux 10.0; 2.6.9 kernel.
[7.1.] Software (add the output of the ver_linux script here)
Linux stor 2.6.9 #1 Fri Jan 14 14:18:38 EST 2005 i686 unknown unknown
