Hello,

is there right now a mainboard on the market,
which has an ahci capable sata-controller
for an amd64 CPU?
It looks to me like the only chip that is a ahci
chip is the via vt8251, but i couldnŽt find
a mainboard for amd64 cpuŽs with that chip.

Anyone?

Kind Regards

Florian Engelhardt

Specifically AMD64?

The current Intel EM64T computers ship with AHCI.

Yes

Well, the question is Intel or AMD, i am using AMD-CPUs since six
years, and i was happy with them all the time, and i have to use intel
at work, and i am not happy with the performance of this chip.
So i think i will give the nForce 4 ultra chip a try, maybe via will
release their vt8251 (AHCI capable) southbridge in some month, then i
will have to buy a new board.

Kind Regards

Sorry, but i forgot to ask one technical question about AHCI.
Will every AHCI capable controller be supported, for example
this chipset:

The driver is written to the AHCI specification.

As long as the hardware faithfully follows the specification, yes.
