To: linux-kernel
I have found what appears to be a bug in versions 2.6.14 and following.
Currently I have verified it in 2.6.14 as well as 2.6.14.2. Here are the
items requested on the web site
http://www.kernel.org/pub/linux/docs/lkml/reporting-bugs.html.
-------------------------
[1.] One line summary of the problem:
When the kernel option "vga=1" is used, additional tty's (alt+control+Fx
with x=2,3,4,5, etc) do not provide the full 50 lines of output. The first
one does have 50 lines, however.
[2.] Full description of the problem/report:
These addtitional tty's show only 39 lines plus the top pixel of the 40-th
line. The remaining lines are black and not shown. Kernel version
2.6.13.4 does not show this problem.
[3.] Keywords (i.e., modules, networking, kernel):
Text mode only.
[4.] Kernel version (from /proc/version):
Linux version 2.6.14.2 (wayne@home) (gcc version 3.4.4) #1 Sat Nov 12
23:08:21 PST 2005
[5.] Output of Oops.. message (if applicable) with symbolic information
resolved (see Documentation/oops-tracing.txt)
No Oops occurred.
[6.] A small shell script or example program which triggers the
problem (if possible)
No trigger necessary. This happens upon system boot.
[7.] Environment: This is taken in tty mode, not from an xterm.

I have no patch, no fixes and the only workaround is to stay on tty0, which
is not always possible.

If you change the font to 8x16, with setfont for example, does it correct the
problem? How about if you change back again to an 8x8 font? What is the
output of stty -a before and after each changes?
If nothing works, can you try this patch?
