Hi Clemens!
I am not very experienced on all the stuff around PATA and SATA but in
my opinion there is difference between your case (you have an explicit
error: "DMA timeout error") and my situation.
The problem for me is the messge: "ata : called with no error (51)!"
This means not more than libata-scsi was not able to translate the error
message from an ATA error to a scsi error. (that is only my point of
view... again I am not experienced on this topic) So it is very
difficult to me to investigate the reason for the error. I would guess
that your error really means some kind of problem with the dma modes of
your hdds. In my case this shouldn't be a problem because the 3 disks
are fully identical.
I am still searching for a solution, that's the reason for ataching your
message and posting it to the kernel mailing list. I am still hoping for
an advice to solve this issue.
Best regards and thank you for your interest,
Michael
