ftp://ftp.kernel.org/pub/linux/kernel/people/akpm/patches/2.6/2.6.17-rc4/2.6.17-rc4-mm2/

- Major rework in the libata (SATA) drivers. If anyone has had any problem
with the SATA drivers, please test this tree and report the results. We
expect it to fix quite a few things.

- reiser4 doesn't compile, due to changes to core pagecache APIs. The fix
  wasn't obvious.

- resume-from-disk doesn't locate the resume partition, apparently due to an
interaction between the klibc patch and RH FC5 userspace. It might be OK on
  other distros.

Boilerplate:

- See the `hot-fixes' directory for any important updates to this patchset.

- To fetch an -mm tree using git, use (for example)

  git fetch git://git.kernel.org/pub/scm/linux/kernel/git/smurf/linux-trees.git v2.6.16-rc2-mm1

- -mm kernel commit activity can be reviewed by subscribing to the
  mm-commits mailing list.

        echo "subscribe mm-commits" | mail majordomo@vger.kernel.org

- If you hit a bug in -mm and it is not obvious which patch caused it, it is
most valuable if you can perform a bisection search to identify which patch
introduced the bug. Instructions for this process are at

        http://www.zip.com.au/~akpm/linux/patches/stuff/bisecting-mm-trees.txt

But beware that this process takes some time (around ten rebuilds and
reboots), so consider reporting the bug first and if we cannot immediately
identify the faulty patch, then perform the bisection search.

- When reporting bugs, please try to Cc: the relevant maintainer and mailing
  list on any email.

Hi Andrew,

with 2.6.17-rc4-mm2, running "make" always relinks the kernel
even if a previous run was completed successfully.

Then don't type "make" again (sorry, couldn't resist).

We update the kernel version.

Which affects utsname.

Which requires a relink.

Various blameworthy people cc'ed, but I expect that if this is fixable
we'll need to wait until Sam is back on deck and able to perform his magic
upon it.

Yeah, I fixed a bunch of those yesterday. There are many more.

Actually this one is updated...

... and these two unnecessarily include it.
So these two patches are to blame:
namespaces-add-nsproxy.patch
namespaces-utsname-implement-utsname-namespaces.patch

bye, Roman

secmark-add-new-packet-controls-to-selinux.patch looks fishy:

Was it *really* intended that SELINUX not be selectable if NETWORK_SECMARK
isn't present?

Yes, it's required for SELinux.

Could stand a SELECT instead, then?

Argh, I see, I must have taken that out of init/version.c when
I first created kernel/utsname.c... Sorry.

I think there are times when you need a SELECT, like when you need a
specific set of crypto algorithms for something to work, but this is a
distinct core requirement of SELinux, and too many SELECTs makes the
configuration system unweildy.

I dunno, Martin. I obviously need to resurrect the
takes-seven-minutes-to-boot pseries machine here, but I need to get -mm3
out without Mel's patches to see how much that fixes. So if you could test
-mm3 and if that fixes it then we have a likely culprit.

Don't kill yourself over it - the blade seems to do it, but the p650
(8x) doesn't, so it may not help.

Sure, no problem. I suppose I should really make this thing do automated
bisection chopsearch ... I had that half-working when at IBM, but it'll
have to wait for the next generation now ... shouldn't take all that long.
