The backup is about 100GB (it's the full one..), so not that big.. ;)
The box is a Lenovo Thinkpad X61s.
Need more feedback? Please ask in case there's some crucial information lacking.
I once had a nifty script to collect the data but couldn't find it for some time..

This error happened after 2 (or more) hours of backup running to the USBN-disk (sata).
Reproduceability not yet known.
