Those links are there to refer you to something or other. Changing links to somewhere which you know does not provide that something doesn't help. It hinders. It adds an extra step to the search process for people who want to find that something. If you want to get rid of 404s, ask whoever owns those links for a current link. If you get one, use that, otherwise leave the original one alone. So I think.
