Since COUNT is not used to return the empty #define is ok. Another way
is to use #define COUNT(x) (0) to get a 0 when necessary to read
returns.

Two lines is better.  This patch is fine and so are the other 7 -- I 
never received 9/9v2 (the original 9/9 was okay).
