Fair enough. This patchset already is huge...

It looks good as a short term solution.

Let's see how long it would stay in the code. ;-)

PS: I am not sure how much you are motivated on doing a further
    clean up. You did great changes. But I guess that it has already
    went much further than you expected.

    I could continue when time permits. But I rather do not
    promise anything.
