Yes. The kernel binary on ancient AT&T versions was called 'unix'.
When Berkeley wrote a new kernel with virtual memory, they called it
'vmunix'. So naturally the Linux kernel is 'vmlinux' and the
compressed version is 'vmlinuz' as above.
