This general approach should still work.
You wouldn't do
make SUBDIRS=drivers/staging/lustre/lustre/lmv modules
unless there was a module built in that directory, but you might
make SUBDIRS=drivers/staging/lustre modules
to just build whatever lustre modules there are.
