In this kernel version, C89 is still the default ISO standard. The reverted commit was fixing commit e8c07082a810 ("Kbuild: move to -std=gnu11"), introduced in v5.18, and not backported to older versions. It was then not supported to be backported to v5.15. It can then safely be reverted.
