In what universe does this happen "usually"?

Linux has been outputting fragments in reverse order for more than 10
years.

I'm not applying this patch.

add fast path

As the fragments are usually in order, it is likely the new fragments are
at the end of the inet_frag_queue. In the fast path, we check if the skb at the
end of the inet_frag_queue is the prev we expect.

This patch adds support to the bluetooth hidp module for getting and 
setting FEATURE reports from hidraw, as requested by Jiri Kosina. This 
patch depends on the patch named:

   [PATCH v2] HID: Add Support for Setting and Getting Feature Reports 
from hidraw

I have a couple of concerns with this patch, which I hope someone here 
can clarify and/or help me with.

1. Is it ok to use test_bit()/set_bit()/clear_bit() on session->flags, 
when other parts in the code may not be using these functions to access 
it? This currently isn't a problem because the other code which uses 
flags only sets bits at initialization time (and deletion time). best I 
can tell, flags is never actually used or read other than by my new code 
(using the *_bit() functions). The solution here may be to change the 
other code to use the *_bit() functions to access flags.

2. Is the loop in hidp_get_raw_report() sufficient without a mutex, 
since I'm synchronizing with the atomic call to test_bit() (and 
clear_bit())? I have convinced myself that in this case, with one 
reader, and one writer, to one pointer, synchronized with 
wait_event_interruptible_timeout() and atomic access through test_bit(), 
that a mutex is not needed.

3. A blocking, synchronous GET_REPORT transfer was easy when I 
implemented this for USB because data is both sent and received as part 
of a single control transfer. Because of the nature of Bluetooth 
however, where it is viewed more as an asynchronous network device, and 
with hidraw allowing multiple handles to a single device to exist, there 
could be a race when two handles call the hidp_get_raw_report() function 
concurrently, requesting the same report. I've convinced myself that 
this is not a problem, because since both callers requested the same 
report, the worst that could happen is that one could get a report which 
is slightly out of date.

Consider the following case:
     1. Client 1 requests report (Userspace call to HIDIOCGFEATURE)
     2. Client 2 requests report (Userspace call to HIDIOCGFEATURE)
     3. Client 1's report is returned, and delivered to BOTH clients
     4. Client 2's report is returned (and discarded)

Note here that Client 1's report and Client 2's report are the same 
report, ie: they reflect the state of the same data on the device, just 
at different times. In this case, they are indeed exactly the same data, 
but consider this case:
     1. Client 1 requests report (Userspace call to HIDIOCGFEATURE)
     2. Client 2 SETS report (Userspace call to HIDIOCSFEATURE)
     2. Client 2 requests report (Userspace call to HIDIOCGFEATURE)
     3. Client 1's report is returned, and delivered to Clients 1 and 2
     4. Client 2's report is returned

In this case, client 2 receives OLD data (since it set new data, and the 
call to write the reports is currently not synchronous). To make writes 
synchronous, we'd run into the same problem, of two writes happening 
concurrently, and the 2nd one receiving the ACK from the first one.

The questions here are:
1. Is this a problem? It's only an issues if two handles (in two 
separate threads) are reading and writing the device concurrently. I'd 
expect that there would be bigger problems in this case than receiving 
an old report.
2. If this is a problem, is there a way to synchronize on the control 
socket for the device (as opposed to just this session)? In this case 
GET_REPORT and SET_REPORT would lock access to the control socket (for 
all clients accessing the device) while they are active.

In case of e.g. link-local addresses the route lookup then fails
and no syn-ack is sent.

Rearrange things so ->iif is also initialized in the syncookie case.

check into the "!isn" branch.

when called from skb_clone.  Which then hits the loopback device gets pushed 
into the rx path and is eventually dropped. The following patch fixes this.

Hi,

I am using kernel 2.6.26 in a linux box, and I have another box in the
network using 802.1p (priority tagging, but no VLAN).

Without the 8021q module loaded in the kernel, all 802.1p packets are
silently discarded (probably as expected, as the protocol is not loaded in
the kernel).

When I load 8021q module, these packets are forwarded to the module, but
they are discarded also as VLAN 0 is not configured.

I think this should not be the default behaviour, as VLAN 0 is not really
a VLAN, so it should be treated differently.

I could define the VLAN 0 (ip link add link eth0 name eth0.dot1p type vlan
id 0), but then I have a lot of issues with the ARP table entries, as to
ping the other box, outgoing traffic goes through eth0, but incoming arp
reply ends up in eth0.dot1p. In the end this means I can not communicate
with the box using 802.1p unless I use 802.1p tagging for all traffic in
the network (the linux box and all other), which is not a must of the spec.

I have developed a patch for vlan_dev.c which makes VLAN 0 to be just
reintroduced to netif_rx but with no VLAN tagging if VLAN 0 has not been
defined, so the default behaviour is to ignore the VLAN tagging and accept
the packet as if it was not tagged, and one can still define something
different for VLAN 0 if desired (so it is backwards compatible).

I do not really have much experience in touching the kernel so maybe I
have done it totally wrong..., but there are no major changes applied, and
this way the 8021q module is more transparently similar to the expected
behaviour of 802.1p (VLAN 0 means no VLAN).

Hi,

I noticed that conky (http://conky.sourceforge.net/) freezes while reading
from hddtemp socket (it's an IPv4 TCP socket, loopback).
I didn't notice when exactly this started happening (I started running
full desktop on 2.6.35 only since -rc3) and haven't bisected yet (I'll try,
time and our daughter permitting).

Little what I have (2.6.35 crashes on me yet):

- hddtemp has closed this socket already (lsof -p `pidof hddtemp`
shows only its listening socket, no established connections). I can even
kill hddtemp altogether, I does not matter for conky's read

- conky waits in read(2) with this trace:

(I have modified conky to use read, original code used recv,
doesn't matter in this case, though).

- It doesn't happen every time conky connects to hddtemp,
but surely happens if leave it running for five minutes. I could
reproduce the problem by running a simple program which
just connects to hddtemp, polls(2), reads and exits, in a tight
loop, so it is not something specific to conky. An while the conky's
code is not pretty it is certainly nothing unusual: basically
connect, select for incoming, blocking read if select returns
a ready socket, and close (see below).

- the system is a Dell M1330 laptop (Core 2 Duo, 64bit kernel
and userspace). Config attached.

I can confirm this. Reverting of this patch fixes a regression with
Privoxy running on localhost, where most of the connections
(browser->proxy) stall and don't return anything.

Remove the restriction that only allows connecting to a unix domain
socket identified by unix path that is in the same network namespace.

Crossing network namespaces is always tricky and we did not support
this at first, because of a strict policy of don't mix the namespaces.
Later after Pavel proposed this we did not support this because no one
had performed the audit to make certain using unix domain sockets
across namespaces is safe.

What fundamentally makes connecting to af_unix sockets in other
namespaces is safe is that you have to have the proper permissions on
the unix domain socket inode that lives in the filesystem.  If you
want strict isolation you just don't create inodes where unfriendlys
can get at them, or with permissions that allow unfriendlys to open
them.  All nicely handled for us by the mount namespace and other
standard file system facilities.

I looked through unix domain sockets and they are a very controlled
environment so none of the work that goes on in dev_forward_skb to
make crossing namespaces safe appears needed, we are not loosing
controll of the skb and so do not need to set up the skb to look like
it is comming in fresh from the outside world.  Further the fields in
struct unix_skb_parms should not have any problems crossing network
namespaces.

Now that we handle SCM_CREDENTIALS in a way that gives useable values
across namespaces.  There does not appear to be any operational
problems with encouraging the use of unix domain sockets across
containers either.

In unix_skb_parms store pointers to struct pid and struct cred instead
of raw uid, gid, and pid values, then translate the credentials on
reception into values that are meaningful in the receiving processes

Start capturing not only the userspace pid, uid and gid values of the
sending process but also the struct pid and struct cred of the sending
process as well.

This is in preparation for properly supporting SCM_CREDENTIALS for
sockets that have different uid and/or pid namespaces at the different
ends.

scm_send occasionally allocates state in the scm_cookie, so I have
modified netlink_sendmsg to guarantee that when scm_send succeeds
scm_destory will be called to free that state.
