* [PATCH 1/9] tproxy: split off ipv6 defragmentation to a separate module
From: KOVACS Krisztian @ 2010-10-20 11:21 UTC (permalink / raw)
To: netdev, netfilter-devel; +Cc: Patrick McHardy, David Miller
In-Reply-To: <20101020112118.6260.31618.stgit@este.odu>

From: Balazs Scheidler <bazsi@balabit.hu>

Like with IPv4, TProxy needs IPv6 defragmentation but does not
require connection tracking. Since defragmentation was coupled
with conntrack, I split off the two, creating an nf_defrag_ipv6 module,
similar to the already existing nf_defrag_ipv4.

* [PATCH 1/3] tproxy: kick out TIME_WAIT sockets in case a new connection comes in with the same tuple
From: KOVACS Krisztian @ 2010-10-20 11:21 UTC (permalink / raw)
To: netdev, netfilter-devel; +Cc: Patrick McHardy, David Miller
In-Reply-To: <20101020112142.6538.25550.stgit@este.odu>

From: Balazs Scheidler <bazsi@balabit.hu>

Without tproxy redirections an incoming SYN kicks out conflicting
TIME_WAIT sockets, in order to handle clients that reuse ports
within the TIME_WAIT period.

The same mechanism didn't work in case TProxy is involved in finding
the proper socket, as the time_wait processing code looked up the
listening socket assuming that the listener addr/port matches those
of the established connection.

This is not the case with TProxy as the listener addr/port is possibly
changed with the tproxy rule.

Subject: [Patch] Limit sysctl_tcp_mem and sysctl_udp_mem initializers to prevent integer overflows.

On a 16TB x86_64 machine, sysctl_tcp_mem[2], sysctl_udp_mem[2], and
sysctl_sctp_mem[2] can integer overflow. Set limit such that they are
maximized without overflowing.

Also, inline this function as the lookup_type is always a literal
and inlining removes branches performed at runtime.

* [PATCH 3/3] tproxy: fix hash locking issue when using port redirection in __inet_inherit_port()
From: KOVACS Krisztian @ 2010-10-20 11:21 UTC (permalink / raw)
To: netdev, netfilter-devel; +Cc: Patrick McHardy, David Miller
In-Reply-To: <20101020112142.6538.25550.stgit@este.odu>

When __inet_inherit_port() is called on a tproxy connection the wrong locks are
held for the inet_bind_bucket it is added to. __inet_inherit_port() made an
implicit assumption that the listener's port number (and thus its bind bucket).
Unfortunately, if you're using the TPROXY target to redirect skbs to a
transparent proxy that assumption is not true anymore and things break.

This patch adds code to __inet_inherit_port() so that it can handle this case
by looking up or creating a new bind bucket for the child socket and updates
callers of __inet_inherit_port() to gracefully handle __inet_inherit_port()
failing.

Reported by and original patch from Stephen Buck <stephen.buck@exinda.com>.
See http://marc.info/?t=128169268200001&r=1&w=2 for the original discussion.

* [PATCH 0/3] tproxy fixes for current upstream code
From: KOVACS Krisztian @ 2010-10-20 11:21 UTC (permalink / raw)
To: netdev, netfilter-devel; +Cc: Patrick McHardy, David Miller

The following series fix a handful of issues which have been found in the
current upstream IPv4 tproxy code:

  * an issue with how port redirection interacts with TCP TIME_WAIT sockets
  * UDP socket lookup fixes so that now it prefers connected sockets, etc.
  * fix for a bind hash issue which could trigger crashes when port redirection
    was used.

tproxy: add lookup type checks for UDP in nf_tproxy_get_sock_v4()

* [PATCH 7/9] tproxy: added IPv6 support to the TPROXY target
From: KOVACS Krisztian @ 2010-10-20 11:21 UTC (permalink / raw)
To: netdev, netfilter-devel; +Cc: Patrick McHardy, David Miller

This requires a new revision as the old target structure was
IPv4 specific.

* [PATCH 9/9] tproxy: use the interface primary IP address as a default value for --on-ip
From: KOVACS Krisztian @ 2010-10-20 11:21 UTC (permalink / raw)
To: netdev, netfilter-devel; +Cc: Patrick McHardy, David Miller
In-Reply-To: <20101020112118.6260.31618.stgit@este.odu>

From: Balazs Scheidler <bazsi@balabit.hu>

The REDIRECT target and the older TProxy versions used the primary address
of the incoming interface as the default value of the --on-ip parameter.
This was unintentionally changed during the initial TProxy submission and
caused confusion among users.

Since IPv6 has no notion of primary address, we just select the first address
on the list: this way the socket lookup finds wildcard bound sockets
properly and we cannot really do better without the user telling us the
IPv6 address of the proxy.

This is implemented for both IPv4 and IPv6.

Just like with IPv4, we need access to the UDP hash table to look up local
sockets, but instead of exporting the global udp_table, export a lookup
function.

* [PATCH 2/9] tproxy: added const specifiers to udp lookup functions

The parameters for various UDP lookup functions were non-const, even though
they could be const. TProxy has some const references and instead of
downcasting it, I added const specifiers along the path.

* [PATCH 0/9] tproxy: add IPv6 support
From: KOVACS Krisztian @ 2010-10-20 11:21 UTC (permalink / raw)
To: netdev, netfilter-devel; +Cc: Patrick McHardy, David Miller

The following series adds IPv6 support for tproxy. The parts touching
non-Netfilter code include exporting the UDP lookup function, adding the
sockopt infrastructure for getting the original destination address and
allowing non-local binds if the IP_TRANSPARENT socket option is set.

Netfilter changes are splitting the defragmentation code off of conntrack,
adding IPv6 socket lookup helpers to the tproxy core module and updating the
socket match and the TPROXY target.

The last patch in the series tries to make it easier to use the TPROXY target
by selecting a meaningful address to redirect to in case the user did not
explicitly specify it with '--on-ip'.

Btw, if you find time I would be interested in checking an opposite
concept of lower than real mtu (256) to use rate tables different way
(other tbf parameters without change). The patch below is needed for
this to work.

What is the overall advantage of this API comparing to other existing
ones that achieve similar goals[0][1]?

Some observations:
1. To perform an encryption of data 6 system calls are made (I don't
count the 2 used for socket initialization since I suppose can be global
for all operations) and a file descriptor is assigned. The number of
system calls
made has great impact to the actual speed seen by userspace (as you said this
API is for user-space to access the high-speed peripherals that do encryption).
2. Due to the usage of read() and write() no zero-copy can happen for
user-space buffers[3].

regards,
Nikos

[0]. http://home.gna.org/cryptodev-linux/
[1]. http://home.gna.org/cryptodev-linux/ncr.html
[2]. The openbsd[0] api can do it with 3 system calls and NCR[1] with one,
and both require no file descriptor for each operation.
[3]. The openbsd[0] api and NCR[1] do zero-copy for user-space buffers.

* Why RTM_NEWADDR is sent before FIB update?
From: Timo Teräs @ 2010-10-20 10:23 UTC (permalink / raw)
  To: netdev

Hi,

I'm wonder why does devinet.c:__inet_insert_ifa() (and other places)
send first the RTM_NEWADDR notification and only after that calls
inetaddr_chain notifiers?

The reason I'm asking that this gives a race condition to user land:
 1. process A changes IP address
 2. kernel sends RTM_NEWADDR
 3. process B gets notification
 4. process B tries to bind() to new IP but that fails with
EADDRNOTAVAIL because FIB is not yet updated and inet_addr_type() in
inet_bind() does not recognize the IP as local
 5. kernel calls inetaddr_chain notifiers which updates FIB

My understanding was that RTM_NEWADDR was notification about new address
being usable. But it's currently a notification about "new address will
be usable soon".

So should we:
 a) call first notifiers and after that send RTM_NEWADDR?
 b) synchronise inet_bind() with address changes somehow?
 c) live with the bad semantics of the notification in userland
 d) ??

You can add my Acked-by but more Tested-by's are definitely more useful.
Unfortunately, I do not have that hardware at hand.

Wonderful, we are now faster without the routing cache. :-)

Applied.

* [PATCH 1/2] can: mcp251x: fix endless loop in interrupt handler if CANINTF_MERRF is set
From: Marc Kleine-Budde @ 2010-10-20 10:02 UTC (permalink / raw)
  To: socketcan-core; +Cc: netdev, Marc Kleine-Budde
In-Reply-To: <1287568946-32727-1-git-send-email-mkl@pengutronix.de>

Commit d3cd15657516141adce387810be8cb377baf020e introduced a bug, the
interrupt handler would loop endlessly if the CANINTF_MERRF bit is set,
because it's not cleared.

This patch fixes the problem by masking out the CANINTF_MERRF and all other
non interesting bits.

* [PATCH 2/2] can: mcp251x: fix generation of error frames
From: Marc Kleine-Budde @ 2010-10-20 10:02 UTC (permalink / raw)
  To: socketcan-core-0fE9KPoRgkgATYTw5x5z8w
  Cc: netdev-u79uwXL29TY76Z2rM5mHXA, Marc Kleine-Budde
In-Reply-To: <1287568946-32727-1-git-send-email-mkl-bIcnvbaLZ9MEGnE8C9+IrQ@public.gmane.org>

The function "mcp251x_error_skb" is used to generate error frames.
They are identified by the "CAN_ERR_FLAG" in can_id. The function
overwrites the can_id so that the frames show up as normal frames instead
of error frames.

This patch fixes the problem by or'ing the can_id instead of overwriting it.

Hello,

this series of patches fixes two bugs, one introduced by me in the other
mcp251x series.

Please test, especially the error handling, i.e. wrong bitrate, shortcut in
CAN bus. I'm also interested in tests with non i.MX SPI can cores.

cheers, Marc

Just to be clear, I did make sure I used the "v2" series
of the patches, not the original. :-)
